Skate 3's trick HUD for skate., made yours.

Custom HUD is a ReSkate plugin: Skate 3's multiplier badge, timer ring and scoring text in skate., where every part has its own colour, switch, size and place, and the text can use any font.

v1.9.5ReSkate 2.1.2+25 colour parts21 starter themesno game data
The HUD in its default Skate 3 Blue theme: an x3 badge with its timer ring, two earlier tricks, Varial Heelflip Nollie, and a 5,420 line score.
The default look, from the colour picker's preview.

What you get

  • The Skate 3 badge: the multiplier (x1 to x4, or your own highest up to x99), a timer ring that runs out between tricks over skate.'s own line time, a glow that grows, and a pop when it goes up. Round or square, for a square picture.
  • The scoring text: the trick going on, its detail (Nollie, the landing), earlier tricks in the line, and the line score, each with its own size, outline and place.
  • Falls, like Skate 3: fall or miss a trick and the score is struck through in red, with skate.'s own slam names (Harsh Slam, Gnarly Slam) and fall moves (Flip, Dive, Roll).
  • Every part can be switched off, and every colour changed: 25 parts, each with its own opacity, including a colour for each kind of landing.
  • Themes: 21 ready-made looks and your own, named. Fonts of your own, from a single font file. Pictures in, behind or over the badge.
  • skate.'s own HUD: its scoring corner hidden so it never shows under this one, and the rest of its HUD (compass, prompts) hidden while you skate if you like.
  • HUD Studio: the HUD's own window over the game, with a live preview and a step-by-step tutorial.

Install and turn it on

  1. Have ReSkateReSkate 2.1.2 or newer (2.1.3 recommended), the skate. mod platform that runs this plugin.
  2. Add the modInstall it with your mod manager, or copy the CustomHUD folder into Mods\. Turn off other scoring-HUD mods (such as ProbablyFineSoft's Skate 3 HUD), or both badges show.
  3. Approve itReSkate asks you to approve each plugin the first time, and again after an update. It lists what the plugin may do.
  4. SkateStart a line: the badge appears in the bottom-left.

HUD Studio

Open it

While you skate: Ctrl + Z, or L3 + R3 + LB (L1) on a controller. Or from ReSkate's menu (Insert): PLUGINS > Custom HUD > OPEN HUD STUDIO, then close ReSkate's menu. Change the keys on ReSkate's Binds page.

The first time, it opens on the Tutorial: four short tabs (Start, The HUD, Make it yours, Help). It is always first in the list.

  • Find your way: the sections run down the left, or along the top (Settings > Appearance > Sections). Busy sections have tabs: click them, or LT / RT. The controls show at the top.
  • See what you change: point at a setting and its part of the HUD lights up in the preview. Drag the badge or any text in the preview to move it. Pause freezes the preview; x1 to x4 hold a multiplier.
  • Controller: LB / RB sections, LT / RT tabs, D-pad to choose and change, A press, B close. Mouse: click, drag, wheel to scroll, Esc or right click to close.
Colours
Tabs for the badge, the number, the text and the landings. Pick a part, then its red, green, blue and opacity, a colour code, or a quick colour. Copy and paste between parts.
Badge
Ring: on or off, Skate 3 or flat, smooth or with lines, which way it empties. Look: round or square, and each part on or off (badge, track, centre, rim, glow, shine, shadow). Number: on or off, the highest multiplier, pop, outline, size.
Text
Shown (each part, capitals, stance and spins), Falls (see below), Sizes, Positions (or drag in the preview), Outlines, and Names: trick packs and your own trick names.
Fonts
A font each for the trick names, the score and the number. See Fonts.
Picture
A picture from the backgrounds folder: inside, behind or over the badge, zoomed and moved to fit.
Layout
Position: where the HUD sits and its size. skate.'s HUD: its scoring corner (hidden, shown between lines, or shown), and hiding the rest of skate.'s HUD while you skate.
Themes
Ready-made looks as tiles; your own, saved with a name, which you can update, rename or delete.
Settings
General (sounds, size, preview, resets), Appearance (sections on the left or along the top, window opacity, 10 light, 10 dark and 10 OLED true-black menu themes, or your own colours with named presets), Controls, About.

The classic editor (every setting in ReSkate's own menu) is still on the plugin's page: turn on Show the classic editor. To hide the HUD for clips, give CustomHUD > toggle_hud a key on ReSkate's Binds page.

Falls, slams and landings

  • A fall ends the line at once: the score is struck through, in the bail colour. A trick that does not land while you stay on your feet counts too, as in Skate 3.
  • skate.'s names for the fall show in the trick's place: its moves (Flip, Dive, Spread Eagle, Roll) and its slam. One slam name a fall keeps the strongest (Gnarly Slam over Slam) instead of one for every hit.
  • Landing colours: Perfect, Clean, Sketchy, Sloppy, a fall's (Ouch, Rough) and any other, each in its own colour (Colours > Landings).
  • Each of these is its own switch in Text > Falls: keep the line through the score with no slam names, or any mix.

Themes

A theme sets every colour and which text parts have an outline. Fonts, sizes and layout stay as they are. Apply one from Themes > Starter themes and use it as it is, or as the start of your own.

Save your own

  1. Make a lookStart from any theme, then change colours and outlines until it looks right.
  2. Name itHUD Studio > Themes: type a name in the box (the name is kept as you type).
  3. Save itPress SAVE THE CURRENT LOOK. Your themes can be updated (SAVE HERE), renamed (RENAME) or deleted. You can keep up to 31.

Fonts

Adding a font: one file, one button

  1. Copy the font file (.ttf or .otf) into the mod's fonts folder.
  2. HUD Studio > Fonts: press LOOK FOR NEW FONTS, then OPEN THE COLOUR PICKER and open that page in Chrome or Edge.
  3. On the page, press Add it to the game (the first time, connect the mod folder). The HUD reloads in a few seconds: choose the font in HUD Studio > Fonts.

ReSkate draws pictures, not font files, so the page turns the font into pictures for you, once. You can also use Show my fonts on the page for the fonts installed on your PC.

How many font changes before a restart

ReSkate lets one plugin show 32 different pictures until the plugin reloads. Each font is two pictures (its letters and their outline).

What uses picturesPictures
The badge (round; the square one uses 1)6
The built-in font, letters and numbers4
A new font, the first time it shows2 each
A new font used for both letters and numbers4
A background picture, the first time it shows1 each
Room for new fonts with no backgrounds11
  • Importing fonts costs nothing. Fonts that are only in the list are free, and switching back to a font already shown is free.
  • When the room runs out, the HUD keeps its font and says so on the Fonts tab. It does not crash.
  • To start the count again: save anything from the colour picker page, type plugin reload CustomHUD in the ReSkate console, or restart the game.

Backgrounds

  1. Add a picturePut a PNG or JPG in Mods\CustomHUD\backgrounds\. Square pictures fit best. Use plain English letters, numbers, spaces, - and _ in the name.
  2. Pick itHUD Studio > Picture > LOOK IN THE FOLDER AGAIN, then choose it.
  3. Place itInside the badge (in its shape: choose Badge > Shape > Square for a square picture), behind it, or on top of it. Zoom and move it to frame it. Its tint is the Background PNG tint colour; white keeps its own colours.

Important: picture size

ReSkate shows pictures up to 512 x 512 pixels and 2 MB. A bigger one stays blank. The colour picker page shrinks a picture to fit and saves it into the folder for you.

The colour picker page

For a full colour picker with hex codes, fonts, themes and a live preview, open colour_picker.html from the mod folder in Chrome or Edge, then press Save to the game. It writes your settings, fonts, themes and background into the mod, and the HUD loads them by itself.

Open the colour picker

Help

The HUD does not show at all

Check the mod is on and approved, then type plugin list in ReSkate's console (the ` key): it says whether CustomHUD is running, and why not. ReSkate only runs plugins that Thunderstore lists in its Plugins category (unless you are offline, or use plugin dev on).

The HUD stopped

Type plugin reload CustomHUD in ReSkate's console (use your mod folder's name if your mod manager named it differently).

A trick, slam or landing name is wrong or missing

Turn on Settings > General > Write trick names to ReSkate's log, skate a little, and send logs\ReSkate.log to the mod's author: it shows every name skate. gave, and what the HUD made of it.

The line through the score did not show

Check Text > Falls > Line through the score is on. Falls are caught from skate.'s line break, its wipeout and the skater's state; a missed trick needs A trick that does not land is a fall on.

The ring runs out at a different time than skate.'s

skate. does not give plugins its line timer, so the HUD learns it from the lines you finish without falling (Badge > Ring shows what it learned). Finish a few lines and it matches.

The compass, prompts or challenge markers

ReSkate lets plugins hide skate.'s HUD only as a whole: Layout > skate.'s HUD > Hide the rest of skate.'s HUD while skating. Layout > SAVE SKATE.'S SETTING NAMES writes skate.'s own settings to a file, to look for ones that hide parts on their own.

Connecting the mod folder does not work

Saving into folders works in Chrome and Edge (on Linux, Google Chrome from its .deb, not a Flatpak). In Brave, turn on brave://flags/#file-system-access-api. Elsewhere use Download as .zip and unzip it into the mod folder.

A font did not change

The picture room is probably full; HUD Studio > Fonts says how many new fonts you can still show. Adding fonts, or reloading the plugin, starts the count again.

Some letters show as ?

The HUD's fonts hold English letters, numbers and punctuation. Other characters show as ?.

My background picture is blank

It is probably bigger than 512 x 512 or 2 MB. Shrink it, or let the colour picker page save it for you.
